The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a suspected cult initiation in Owode-Yewa, arresting three students aged 12, 18 and 18, while also apprehending a 21-year-old butcher over the alleged stabbing to death of his 26-year-old colleague in Alagbole.
The two incidents, which occurred in different parts of Ogun State, were disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in separate press releases dated October 23, 2026.
In Owode-Yewa, the police said the operation followed credible intelligence received on October 22 about a planned cult-related activity tagged “Kito Day”, allegedly involving students from different secondary schools in the area.
According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer, Owode-Yewa, promptly deployed detectives in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to the scene, leading to the arrest of the three students.
Items recovered during the operation included an English axe, two knives, a short cutlass, a rubber toy gun and a school bag.
The command said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, on October 23 for further investigation and possible prosecution.
In a separate incident, the police arrested a 21-year-old butcher, identified as Selim Ayodele, in connection with the alleged stabbing to death of his colleague, Ibrahim Wasiu, aged 26, following a disagreement at their workplace in Alagbole on October 18.
The police said the incident was reported at Ajuwon Police Station at about 8 p.m., prompting a swift response from officers.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased and the suspect had finished their day's work at a cow meat-selling outlet when a disagreement reportedly arose over sweeping the floor.
During the altercation, Ayodele allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed Wasiu on the left side of his chest before twisting the weapon.
The victim was reportedly rushed to Life Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains were subsequently deposited at Life Channel Private Mortuary, Lanbe, Ajuwon, for autopsy.
The police said the suspect remained in custody as investigations continued ahead of his possible prosecution.
Reacting to the incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command's commitment to prompt response to criminal incidents, thorough investigations and the lawful prosecution of offenders.
He urged residents to exercise restraint, resolve disagreements peacefully and report criminal activities promptly to the police.
The command also reiterated the importance of timely intelligence and collaboration between security agencies and community-based groups in preventing crime and maintaining public safety across the state.
