Sports is essential to education, says Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu

Ogun State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology, Abayomi Adelaja Arigbabu has stressed the importance of sports to education.

The education commissioner stated this in Abeokuta during the press conference to mark the official flag-off of starlets, Ogun State School Sports Festival


Prof. Arigbabu declared that Sports is part of education hence it is important to bring secondary school football competition back to live.

In his own words, the organizer, Mr Alex Okonkwo, the Project coordinator, thanked Ogun State Government for its good intention for students in the public schools and the privileged accorded his organization to kick start Starlettes Ogun State Sport Festival 2024.

Explaining reasons for bringing back to life the public schools football competition, he noted that it is to discover future stars and give them scholarship to study in university in Nigeria.

While appreciating the commander of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency for being part of the competition in areas of drugs, by ensuring that our participants were drugs free.

Mr Allen Okonkwo, said the aims and objectives is to discovered talented players for the state for the students in public secondary school across the the four zone Remo, Ijebu, Yewa and Egba (RIYE).

In addition Commander of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Mrs James ibida Ordili expressed delighted about the action taking by Ogun State Government in areas of education because drug startistic is very high now.

"Sport is the only alternative to drugs abuse in our societies".

Also the Ogun State ANCOPS President Mr Adekola Adeniyi appreciate Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu for bringing sports into education. Saying this is a very good steps in a very good direction.

Sports and education should be going together because Nigeria has alot of stars but we cannot hear them again, Segun Odegbami and Felix Owolabi is still relevant in the societies because they combined the two together.

In attendance are MrAlex Okwonkwo projects coordinator,  Mrs O.O Osho, director of education  support programme  Mr Sunday  Akindele, Adekoya Adeniyi, Mr Adebo Steven Sports director ANCOPS, Mrs James Ibida Ordili commander of Nation Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Alegbeyo Tokunbo representatives of  Airtel Communication and Mr Dare Olawale Olatoye director of media and publicity.
