In a bid to ensure safer schools, tackle insecurity and criminal activities, Ogun State Government has commenced demolition of shanties, makeshifts and illegal structures on public schools’ setbacks across the state.
The exercise was carried out at St. John Primary School, Kuto; Nawarudeen Primary and Secondary Schools, Oke-Ijeun; Baptist Primary School Idi-Aba, while Omida Market, Ibara and Panseke pedestrian bridge were not left out.
Speaking during the enforcement exercise, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Alhaji Farook Akintunde, who is also the Chairman, Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, explained that government took the drastic step due to non-compliance as notice of vacation was served last year.
“The government do not want any shanties, makeshifts or illegal structures on any of the public schools’ setbacks. They have become hideouts for criminals which will not be tolerated because government needs to protect our schools from any danger such as kidnappings and among others “, he said.
He warned Head-teachers and Principals against allotting government setbacks near public school walls, as it contravenes environmental law, informing that the exercise would be carried out across the state.
