FG Approves N438bn Road Projects, Trailer Park Concessions Nationwide

By Olawale Olayinka, Abeokuta

The Federal Government has approved road construction, rehabilitation and public-private partnership projects valued at about N438 billion across various parts of the country, including Ogun, Ekiti, Rivers, Niger and Abia states.

The approvals were given at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presiding over the meeting.

The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, disclosed the development while briefing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting. He said the approvals were aimed at improving road infrastructure, enhancing connectivity and supporting economic activities across the country.

Among the approved projects is the reconstruction of the Ado-Ekiti–Iyin–Aramoko–Itawure–Osun border road in Ekiti State, at a cost of N159.83 billion. The contract was awarded to CBC Global Civil and Building Construction Nigeria Limited.

The council also approved a N54.12 billion variation order for the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta–Iboro–Ilaro Road in Ogun State.

Another major project approved is the reconstruction of the 15-kilometre Port Harcourt–Eleme Junction–Onne Port Junction section of the East-West Road in Rivers State, valued at N74.51 billion. The project was awarded to RCC Nigeria Limited and is expected to be completed within nine months.

Also approved was Phase II of the rehabilitation of the Ado-Ekiti–Afe Babalola University Road, which forms part of the Ado–Ijan–Iluomobi–Imesi–Ondo border route, at a cost of N54.52 billion.

In Ogun State, the council approved the construction of the Ilara–Iselu Road, Phases II to V, valued at N94.24 billion. The project was awarded to JRB Construction Company Limited and has a completion period of 24 months.

The Federal Government equally approved several highway and trailer park concessions under public-private partnership arrangements. These include the development of the 7.9-kilometre Dikko–Maje section of the Suleja–Minna Road in Niger State at N56.75 billion under a 40-year concession to Graciatech Engineering Nigeria Limited.

The operation and maintenance of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway was also approved under a 25-year concession valued at N96.43 billion, with LIB Concession Group as the concessionaire.

In Abia State, the council approved the development of a greenfield trailer park at Aro-Ngwa at a cost of N19.70 billion under a 50-year concession to Greg Jane International Limited.

Goronyo said the projects reflected the Federal Government's commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits, improving transportation networks and creating an enabling environment for economic growth through strategic investments and private-sector participation.
