Member of Federal House Of Representative, Representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Hon. Moruf Afuape, says both Ogun West and Ogun Central Senatorial Districts are qualified to produce the next governor of Ogun in 2027.
Speaking at Tuesday’s media chat at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Abeokuta, Afuape called for unity and fairness in the state’s political process.
According to him, since the incumbent governor is from Ogun East, it would be fair and equitable for either Ogun Central or Ogun West to produce the next governor.
He, however, warned against the push by some quarters for an exclusive zone to produce the next governor.
Such a move, he said, could create tension and division.
Afuape emphasised that the state’s political future should be anchored on inclusiveness, competence and collective interest rather than sectional considerations.
While acknowledging zoning as a means of political balance, he urged stakeholders to approach the 2027 governorship race with maturity and a commitment to unity.
“We must not allow zoning debates to divide us.
“What should matter most is competence, capacity and the ability to move Ogun State forward, not where a candidate comes from.
“Leaders and stakeholders must guide their supporters to avoid statements or actions that could heat the polity,” he said.
Highlighting his performance, Afuape said that in addition to moving motions that benefit citizens, he facilitated the reconstruction of roads, donated transformers and constructed classrooms.
He also assured that ongoing and abandoned projects would be completed in due course.
