The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has clarified the personal reasons behind his decision to no longer employ female secretaries, stating that it is not rooted in gender bias but in maintaining personal discipline and avoiding potential temptation.
Speaking during a recent church service, Adeboye revealed that as his ministry responsibilities increased, he often found himself working alone late into the night. This, he explained, prompted him to adopt boundaries that would prevent compromising situations with women.
He noted that even when he previously had a female secretary — whom he praised as diligent and God-fearing — he became increasingly concerned that late-night work environments could create conditions that were unsafe spiritually or morally.
According to the revered cleric, prioritizing accountability and preserving his personal convictions was essential, especially given the nature of his calling.
“From the moment I got to this campground and reached the stage where I still had to work late into the night, I stopped having a female secretary. Some people think it’s gender discrimination, but I know myself. I know who I was before Jesus saved my soul, and I understand the dangers of being alone at night with a member of the opposite sex.
“If we could find someone like my last secretary — a wonderful child of God, a true believer — it would be ideal. But imagine it’s 2:00 AM after a long day, and she comes in saying, ‘We are through now, sir. Is there anything I can help with? Maybe a cup of tea to relax?’ At that hour? Jonah must go.”
Adeboye emphasized that his decision is simply a proactive measure to maintain integrity in his walk with God.
