The Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government in Ogun State, Hon. Adeshina Ogunsola, has commended the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for organizing the Media Cup initiative, which he believes will promote sports in the state, especially at the local level.
Speaking during the ceremonial kick-off of the third SWAN/Oluwalogbon Electronics Media Cup at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogunsola praised SWAN for a job well done and urged the association to replicate the initiative in local government areas across the state.
The LG boss noted that the Media Cup has shown that sports journalists can practice what they preach, improving their physical and mental alertness in the process.
He emphasized the need for SWAN to partner with local government to organize talent hunts for youths in the state, ahead of the upcoming national sports festival.
Ogunsola expressed his appreciation for SWAN's efforts, stating that the association has proven itself to be a good football administrator, capable of organizing befitting competitions in the state.
He encouraged SWAN to extend the Media Cup initiative to other local governments, ensuring a more collaborative and unified approach to sports development in Ogun State.
"Sincerely, it is good to be here as well to witness this wonderful sports competition organized by the SWAN, Ogun State chapter. I commend the association for a job well done sincerely this will promote sports in Ogun State and local level as well.
"They have shown us that they are good at what they do. The majority of them criticize the athletes, but it's good seeing them on the pitch sweating it out and prove to us they don't just criticize, they also practice it.
"This will further bring unity among our journalists in the state for the growth and development of sports
in Ogun State.
"I want to seize this opportunity to advise SWAN to partner with the local government chairmen to see how they can organize discovering talent hunt for our youths in the local government areas of the state so that all of us can come together as sports families in Ogun State to support our own amiable Governor, as we all know that Ogun State is hosting the next national sports festival which the sports Writers are very key stakeholders.
"You are more very important in that festival please extend this gesture to other local governments for them to also contribute and participate in full in the next edition so that it would be more collaborated with what we are witnessing today" he concluded.
