Lagos Monarchs Guard Receives Final Charge

By Our Correspondent

The Lagos State Police Command has charged a security guard employed by the Oba of Oworonshoki, Lagos, for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman, Iya Osun Agbebi Adekunle Salawe, which led to her miscarriage.

State police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed on Wednesday that one of the arrested suspects had been formally charged.

It was reported that a group of thugs, allegedly working as security guards for Oba Babatunde Saliu, the monarch of Oworonshoki, attacked Iya Osun Agbebi and her fellow traditional worshippers on Sunday, leaving them in a coma.

This assault was reportedly carried out on the orders of the monarch. Iya Osun Agbebi’s husband, Akogun Adewale Adekunle, stated that the monarch had been sending envoys, including palace chiefs, to plead with him.

However, he and his wife were unaware of the suspect's charge by the police. Adekunle accused Oba Babatunde Saliu and a police officer of playing a "gimmick game" to avoid the monarch's arrest, suggesting that the quick arraignment of a suspect who was not directly involved in the assault was a strategic move to divert attention.

Adekunle also alleged that the monarch was attempting to bribe certain officers, which he believed was the reason behind the swift arraignment.

He expressed concern that his wife, who has been in a coma since the incident, would be unable to testify in court about her experience.
