Obasanjo, Ooni, S/W govs set for 2024 World Diversity Day in Ogun


All is now been set for the maiden edition of annual World Diversity Day, organized by The Foundation for the Preservation of Yoruba Culture and Heritage.

In a press statement signed by the convener, Kehinde Adebayo Somoye and Dr Tola Adenekan, who is the Chairman Local Organizing said the event will take place in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital by 10am.

The organization said the Olowu of Owu, Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola has been invited as the Keynote Speaker for the event.

“In 2001, UNESCO adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and in December 2002, the UN General Assembly, in its resolution 57/249, declared May 21 to be the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

“In commemoration of the 2024 World Diversity Day, The Foundation for the Preservation of Yoruba Culture and Heritage will hold the maiden edition of Annual Yoruba History and Heritage Celebration on Tuesday, 21st May 2024 at the Hubert Ogunde Hall of June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta at 10am.

“The event will be chaired by the Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi as Royal Guest of Honour while the Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun with other five (5) South-west governors are Special Guests of Honour.

“The four paramount rulers in Ogun state: Alake of Egbaland- Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Akarigbo of Remoland- Oba Babatunde Ajayi, Olu of Yewaland- Oba Kehinde Olugbenle and the Awujale of Ijebuland- Oba Sikiru Adetona are also expected to grace the occasion which has the Olowu of Owu, Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola as Keynote Speaker. Panelists at the event includes Chief Lekan Alabi, Chief Mrs. Yemi Olanrewaju, Ms. Aralola Sherifat Olumuyiwa and Hon. Segun Kaka.”
