GNI Campaign Council (GNICO) Condemns Attacks On Political Associate

By Our Correspondent

The Gboyega Nasir Isiaka Campaign Organization is constrained to inform the general public that a brazen attempt was made on the life of a prominent associate of our symbol and Coordinator of Ketu State Constituency of GNICO, Hon. David Opeifa Atanda who was shot at close range by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Ijeja axis of Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

Comrade Sanni Omobolaji Oluwafisayomi
Publicity Secretary, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka Campaign Organization (GNICO) made the statement available to the pressmen.

Danni explained that,  Atanda who was in the company of a close friend and political associate in  branded GNI Sienna vehicle, had just left the Ibara Housing residence of our Symbol, on Wednesday.

They were both on their way to retrieve an item from a friend at Ijeja area when the gunmen shot at Hon. Atanda in an isolated attack. They merely left the other friend, as he was not their target.

Convinced that their target was dead, the assailants left the scene, as Hon. Atanda was rushed to the hospital where he is now receiving treatment.

We have credible information that there is an underground plot by some unscrupulous persons to wreak havoc in Yewa North/Imeko Afon federal constituency as we approach the general elections.

While we condemn in the strongest terms this assassination attempt on the life of one of us, we note that GNI is a man of peace who has over the last decade participated in the political process without any record of political violence.

It is our thinking that our democracy has come of age, and the era of political brigandage has long gone.

We strongly urge players in the political process to play according to the rules. Elections are civil and should not be turned into warfare.

Owing to our preachment for peace, we also request that the Nigerian Police speed up the investigation process so that the perpetrators of this horrible crime can be brought to book.
