GOVT INAUGURATES COMMITTEE TO REPOSITION PHC CENTRES

Ogun State Government has inaugurated a 15-member Task Force Committee, to reposition Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across the State for efficient service delivery.


The Committee consisted of the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele as the Chairperson, Commissioners for Health, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Education, Women Affairs and Social Development, Information and Strategy.


Others are the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Board, Chairman of Local Government Chairmen, representatives of the National Orientation Agency, Faith Based Organisations, Media, Development Partners on Health, Security Agencies, and Chairman Council of Chiefs as members.


Speaking after the inauguration in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Engr. Salako- Oyedele, said inauguration of the Task force was a Federal Government initiative to drive the implementation of Primary Healthcare across the country and ensure the delivery of its core functions in communities.


Engr. Salako- Oyedele, stated that the present administration was committed to the provision of qualitative and affordable healthcare to the doorstep of the people, and had necessitated the launch of the Health Insurance Scheme, systematic upgrading, renovation, and equipping of dilapidated facilities to standard.


The Deputy Governor charged members of the Committee to see themselves as advocates, to enable people to take advantage of services provided at the PHCs, and to help detect and treat life-threatening health conditions at the early stage without needing secondary or tertiary health care.


Earlier in her address, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker said  PHC was the pillar of healthcare systems and added that members of the Committee were critical stakeholders in ensuring the delivery of qualitative healthcare to the people, especially at the local government levels, urging them to join hands with the government in proffering sustainable solutions to challenges to move PHC systems forward in the State.


In his presentation, the Executive Secretary Primary Health Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, stated that the Committee was saddled with the responsibility of monitoring outcomes gathered to strengthen the health system in accordance with the World Health Organisation standard, as it provides regular feedback to the Governor.


Dr. Ogunsola highlighted the terms of reference of the Task Force in all PHC activities to include, effective leadership and coordination, update on a 12-month State Strategic Plan for integrated PHC, providing oversight function for the implementation of PHC activities, overseeing the preparation of budgets, advocating for timely and adequate resource allocation and ensuring judicious use of all allocated funds, among others.
