The ancient town of Akinale Owu came alive with colourful cultural displays and deep spiritual reverence as the Towulade of Owu Akinale, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Oluseyi Oluwole Adediji Adediran (Otileta I), celebrated the first anniversary of his coronation with special prayers for peace, unity and sustainable development in the community.
The anniversary celebration, held at the town square, attracted traditional chiefs, community leaders, religious leaders, youth groups and indigenes from within and outside Akinale. The event was themed "Upholding Our Forefathers' Legacy in Unity, Progress and Development."
As part of the commemorative activities, traditional rites were observed while special prayers were offered at Oju Alale (the ancestral shrine) and other sacred sites, including those dedicated to Ogun, the deity of iron and justice, as well as Iroko Oluwere and other revered deities of the community.
Custodians of the town's cultural heritage paid homage to the deities, seeking divine protection, peace, abundant harvests, prosperity and continued progress for Akinale and its people.
Speaking during the celebration, Oba Adediran expressed appreciation to the people of Owu Akinale for their unwavering support and loyalty throughout his first year on the throne of his forefathers.
The monarch described the anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on the achievements recorded over the past one year while reaffirming his commitment to inclusive leadership, cultural preservation and the overall development of the community.
He called on sons and daughters of Akinale, both at home and in the diaspora, to unite in supporting initiatives aimed at accelerating infrastructural development, strengthening security and preserving the rich cultural heritage that has distinguished the town for generations.
"Our strength lies in our unity. Together, we can build a peaceful, progressive and prosperous community where every resident has a sense of belonging," the monarch said.
Oba Adediran also urged the younger generation to uphold the customs and traditions of their forefathers while embracing education, innovation and legitimate means of livelihood.
The celebration featured cultural performances, traditional dances and goodwill messages from dignitaries, underscoring the community's commitment to preserving its heritage while pursuing unity, peace and sustainable development.
