The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against kidnapping, neutralising two suspected kidnappers and recovering an AK-47 rifle, mobile phones, a suspected ransom bag, and other incriminating items following the rescue of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi.
According to the statement, Prince Idris was abducted on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. after armed men stormed his residence in Okun Owa and forcibly whisked him away.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, immediately ordered the deployment of the Command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to ensure the victim's safe rescue and the arrest of those behind the crime.
The Police said sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical operations mounted pressure on the kidnappers, resulting in the safe release of the monarch's son on July 3, 2026, without injury.
Determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, operatives intensified the manhunt and acted on credible intelligence that led them to the Agoro/Imodi axis.
On sighting the police team, the suspected kidnappers reportedly opened fire, leading to a gun battle. The operatives responded effectively, neutralising two members of the gang, while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used for collecting ransom, and other exhibits believed to be connected to the criminal operation.
The Police said the bodies of the neutralised suspects have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons and exhibits.
Commending the officers involved, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the courage, professionalism, and operational efficiency displayed by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and supporting tactical teams.
He reaffirmed the Command's commitment to identifying, tracking, and dismantling criminal gangs operating across Ogun State, stressing that intelligence-led policing and sustained tactical operations would continue to protect lives and property.
The Commissioner also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing prompt and credible information on suspicious persons or activities.
