Prominent Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun, popularly known as IBD Dende, has been conferred with Honorary Citizenship of the State of Georgia, United States, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to entrepreneurship, philanthropy, economic development and community service.
The honour was presented during an official legislative session of the Georgia State Senate on July 14, 2026, by Senator Dr. Donzella James, who represents Georgia Senate District 28.
The recognition followed a Special Commendation issued on December 1, 2025, which praised Egungbohun's exemplary leadership, humanitarian service and lasting contributions to communities in Nigeria and across the world.
While presenting the honour, Senator James described the Ogun State-born entrepreneur as a goodwill ambassador whose integrity, visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes embody the ideals of international friendship, cooperation and community development.
The latest recognition marks another milestone in the life of Egungbohun, an indigene of Ebute-Igbooro in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, whose journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of Nigeria's leading indigenous entrepreneurs has earned him both national and international recognition.
Speaking after receiving the honorary citizenship, Egungbohun expressed gratitude to Senator James, the Georgia State Senate and the people of Georgia for the recognition.
He reaffirmed his commitment to investing in human capital development, promoting international trade partnerships and supporting vulnerable communities across the globe.
"I remain committed to creating opportunities for people, strengthening international partnerships and making meaningful contributions to humanity," he said.
Egungbohun received his primary and secondary education in his hometown before venturing into business. In 2003, he established IBD Farms, which later evolved into IBD IMPEX LTD, a diversified conglomerate with interests in logistics, hospitality, quarrying, real estate and other sectors of the economy.
The company has created thousands of direct and indirect jobs while contributing significantly to commercial growth and infrastructure development.
Beyond business, Egungbohun is widely celebrated for his humanitarian efforts through the Ibrahim Dende Foundation in Nigeria and IBD Global Impact International in Canada. Through these organisations, he has supported scholarship schemes, healthcare programmes, youth empowerment initiatives, humanitarian interventions, business mentorship and assistance for widows and other vulnerable groups.
His commitment to community development earned him the traditional title of Oluomo of Yewaland, conferred by the Yewa Traditional Council.
Over the years, he has also received several prestigious national and international honours, including the Green and White Champion Award, recognition from the City of Brampton, Canada, and awards from the Oduduwa Development Initiatives for his exemplary leadership and humanitarian service.
