The Olu of Wasinmi Council of Chiefs has dismissed as false and misleading the rumours circulating on social media claiming that the Olu of Wasinmi, His Royal Majesty Oba Suffianu Adisa Jolaosho, has passed away.
Speaking on behalf of the palace chiefs on Tuesday, the Balogun of Wasinmi, High Chief Lawrence Ilori, described the report as the handiwork of mischief makers and enemies of progress determined to create confusion in the community.
He stated that the monarch is alive, healthy, and actively carrying out his traditional and official responsibilities, urging members of the public to disregard the unfounded claims.
"The reports making the rounds that our revered monarch, His Royal Majesty Oba Suffianu Adisa Jolaosho, has joined his ancestors are completely false. Kabiyesi is alive, in good health, and attending to his official and traditional engagements," the palace chief said.
High Chief Ilori condemned the spread of fake news concerning the respected royal father, noting that such rumours were capable of causing unnecessary panic among members of the royal family, subjects, and well-wishers.
He also appealed to bloggers, social media users, and the general public to verify information before publishing or sharing it, stressing that the deliberate dissemination of false information about the health or death of traditional rulers is irresponsible and unacceptable.
The palace further urged residents, indigenes of Wasinmi, and the general public to remain calm, assuring them that there is no cause for concern.
Also speaking, the Oganla of Wasinmi, Chief Sunday Toriola, warned those responsible for fabricating and circulating the false report to desist from such acts, adding that appropriate legal action could be taken against anyone found deliberately spreading misinformation capable of disrupting the peace and stability of the community.
Similarly, Mr Olayinka James, Director of media and publicity Owu College as said, the management of Owu College of Management Technology, Wasinmi, also debunked the rumour, describing it as baseless and misleading.
The institution stated that there was no information or incident within the community suggesting the demise of the monarch, adding that students and members of the public should refrain from spreading unverified information on social media.
The management urged everyone to rely only on credible and official sources for information regarding the traditional institution and other matters affecting the community.
