The management of Owu College of Education, Wasinmi, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, has formally matriculated over 1,200 students admitted for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The matriculation ceremony, held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the institution's main auditorium, marked the official admission of the new students into the academic community.
The event featured the administration of the matriculation oath, goodwill messages from dignitaries, and a keynote lecture focused on entrepreneurship and academic excellence.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Provost, Dr. Adewale Sunday Adeniran, congratulated the newly admitted students and urged them to uphold discipline, integrity, and the core values of the institution.
"You have earned your place here, and today you have become members of this academic community. You must abide by the rules and regulations of the institution. Any form of indiscipline will not be tolerated. Make the best use of the opportunities available to you," he said.
Delivering the matriculation lecture, renowned Computer Science scholar and entrepreneur, Dr. Lucky, emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship education and preparing students for the realities of the modern workplace.
According to him, education should go beyond classroom learning and focus on equipping students with practical skills needed in a dynamic and competitive global marketplace.
"When I attend matriculation and convocation ceremonies, I see them as stakeholders' meetings. Your future after graduation depends largely on what you do from today. Do not limit yourself to classroom learning alone. There are numerous opportunities outside the school environment," he said.
The guest lecturer encouraged students to seek mentors among their lecturers, take internships seriously, and develop entrepreneurial skills that would make them employable and self-reliant after graduation.
He also pledged to collaborate with the institution in creating internship opportunities, especially for students in practical and professional disciplines.
"If institutions, lecturers, and students all play their respective roles effectively, we will create a brighter future not only for ourselves but for society at large," he added.
In his address, the executive director of the institution, Dr. Samuel Aderemi Adekunle, highlighted several achievements and ongoing developments within the college.
He disclosed that the institution has commenced full automation of its operations, enabling students to register courses, make payments, and access results online. The automation process, he said, will become fully operational from September 2026.
Dr. Adekunle further revealed that the college is investing heavily in sports development and internet accessibility, noting that students would enjoy improved internet services through semester-based access tokens beginning from the next academic session.
He also announced that students would have access to various professional certification programmes alongside their academic studies, aimed at enhancing their competitiveness in the labour market.
The Rector advised students to remain security conscious and avoid activities that could jeopardize their academic careers.
He warned against involvement in cultism, cybercrime, late-night movements, and other forms of misconduct, stressing that offenders would face strict disciplinary actions.
"We will not tolerate cultism, cybercrime, or any form of criminal activity. Students should avoid unnecessary movements at night and focus on their academic pursuits," he cautioned.
Representing the Olu of Wasinmi, Oba Dr. Suffianu Adisa Jolaosho, Chief Sunday Toriola Oganla commended the institution for its remarkable growth and prayed for its continued progress.
He also advised students to be responsible ambassadors of the institution and conduct themselves in ways that would promote the values of decency, discipline, and good character
Also, Mr. Inyang praised the college for its collaboration with experienced professionals and experts, describing the institution as one committed to quality education and practical learning.
He encouraged students to remain focused and obedient to the institution's rules and regulations, assuring them that success would follow dedication and hard work.
The colourful event was attended by principal officers of the institution, including the Rector, Dr. Samuel Aderemi Adekunle; his wife, Dr. Mrs. Abiola Adekunle; the Registrar; the Provost, Dr. Adewale Sunday Adeniran; Dean of the School of Science, Mr. Adedimeji Koleosho; Dean of Arts and Management, Mr. Segun Alleh; Dean of Remedial & Professional Studies, Mr. Olayinka Kolawole; Heads of Departments; community leaders; and traditional representatives from Wasinmi and neighbouring communities.
The ceremony climaxed with the formal administration of the matriculation oath and the official declaration of the matriculation exercise, signifying the students' admission into the academic community of Owu College of Education, Wasinmi, Ogun State.
