The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has warned residents against practices that damage public infrastructure, particularly the indiscriminate dumping of refuse and the use of road shoulders for storing building materials.
He issued the warning during plenary in response to a matter of urgent public concern raised by the member representing Sagamu II State Constituency, Hon. Ademola Adeniran. Adeniran highlighted ongoing issues in his constituency and other parts of the state, where residents leave building materials on road shoulders for extended periods, obstructing traffic and creating hazards for road users.
According to Adeniran, the practice not only disrupts the free flow of traffic but also contributes to the deterioration of road infrastructure, complicating maintenance efforts.
In a related development, the Assembly has adopted a report by its Committee on Lands and Housing, approving revised regulations from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development aimed at strengthening development control across the state.
The newly adopted framework includes the Ogun State Building Production Management Regulation, 2025; Planning and Development Permit Regulation, 2025; Slum Regeneration Regulation, 2025; Outdoor Physical Furniture Regulation, 2025; and Layout and Land Subdivision Regulation, 2025.
The motion to adopt the committee’s report, presented by the Committee Chairman, Hon. Damilola Soneye, and seconded by Hon. Lukman Adeleye, received unanimous support from lawmakers following a motion moved by the House Leader, Hon. Yusuf Sheriff.
After the resolution was passed, the Speaker directed that copies be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for implementation.
