Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, has commended the Gateway International Airport project being developed under the administration of Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun CON, describing it as a bold, forward-looking initiative capable of reshaping Ogun State’s economic and strategic relevance.
Obasanjo gave the endorsement during a recent flight from Abuja to the airport site in Iperu–Ilishan, where he inspected the facility alongside government officials and project stakeholders. He praised the clarity of vision, political courage, and consistency that have defined the project’s execution under the current administration.
In his remarks after the visit, the former president noted that the airport reflects deliberate leadership choices aimed at long-term growth. He emphasized that the project positions Ogun State to play a more competitive role in regional commerce, logistics, tourism, and investment, particularly given its strategic proximity to Lagos.
Conceived and executed as part of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s broader infrastructure and economic development agenda, the Gateway International Airport is widely viewed as a transformational asset designed to unlock new opportunities for businesses, investors, and residents of the state.
