The Executive Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Adesina, has unveiled new administrative reforms aimed at addressing persistent chieftaincy conflicts and land ownership disputes across the local government area.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Local Government Secretariat in Itori on Wednesday, 28th January 2026, the chairman noted that unresolved Baaleship matters and land-related disagreements have led to prolonged court cases, civil unrest, and the loss of lives and property in several communities.
Hon. Adesina also highlighted concerns over administrative lapses and certificate racketeering, which have worsened traditional leadership disputes and undermined proper documentation.
To curb these challenges, the local government introduced a Digitalised Baales Certificate of Recognition, embedded with modern security features to prevent forgery, duplication, and illegal issuance.
The system ensures that only duly recognized Baales are certified within each community.
In addition, the council launched the Customary Right of Occupancy (CRO) to formally secure traditional land ownership and reduce conflicts arising from unclear land rights.
According to the chairman, the reforms represent a grassroots approach to security and governance, stressing that local solutions remain critical to resolving broader national challenges.
These measures are designed to strengthen our traditional institutions, promote peace, and protect the hard-earned properties of our people,” he stated.
The event was attended by Royal fathers, Baales, community leaders, security agencies, council officials, and members of the press.
