President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declares a nationwide security emergency in response to the worsening security situation across several states, orders the Army and Police to recruit 20,000 officers in addition to the earlier 30,000 approved (total now 50,000 officers).
Tinubu also directed that NYSC camps across the country be used as police training depots, while VIP police guards withdrawn are to be trained for redeployment to high-risk areas.
Additionally, Tinubu directed the DSS to deploy forest guards immediately and recruit more to flush out terrorists and bandits.
He also promised to support states creating security outfits and calls on the National Assembly to begin work on state police.
Tinubu also appealed to herders to end open grazing, embrace ranching, and surrender illegal weapons, while paying tribute to victims of recent attacks and fallen soldiers, including Brig-Gen Musa Uba.
