The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on the Ogun State House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Dapo Abiodun, accusing him of what it described as “governing through roguery, cluelessness, financial recklessness, and dereliction of duty.”
In a strongly worded statement issued and signed by its State Chairman, Otunba Dr. Femi Soluade, the party condemned what it termed the deplorable state of infrastructure in Egbaland and across Ogun Central Senatorial District. The ADC alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration had abandoned critical road projects, leaving communities in ruin and exposing residents to fatal road conditions.
According to the statement, the ADC accused Governor Abiodun of “deliberately subjugating” six local government areas under the Alake of Egbaland to what it called “Ogun East dominance,” describing the neglect as a “criminal act aimed at humiliating the Egba people and their revered monarch, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.” The party lamented that roads linking Ewekoro, Obafemi Owode, and other local councils have become “death traps” due to years of government abandonment.
The ADC also alleged that the Ogun State Government misdirected public funds toward the purchase of an aircraft instead of addressing urgent public needs such as road rehabilitation, potable water, and funding for local governments. It further accused the governor of spending over ₦2 billion on a birthday celebration and using public funds to rebuild his private residence in Iperu while neglecting the state-owned Government House in Oke-Igbehin.
The party described the alleged aircraft purchase as “a gross violation of democratic norms and fiduciary duty,” saying no legislative approval was obtained before committing state resources. It demanded a transparent audit of the state’s airport and aircraft procurement processes, including a breakdown of funding sources and tender procedures.
“Diverting scarce state funds to luxury aviation projects at a time when our people are dying on bad roads, drinking unsafe water, and living in darkness is an act of wickedness,” the statement read. “Governor Abiodun’s government has become a political liability — morally bankrupt and detached from the realities of the suffering masses.”
The ADC outlined four major demands to the Ogun State House of Assembly:
A public audit and explanation of the aircraft procurement and airport project.
Immediate suspension of all aviation-related contracts pending legislative review.
A full legislative inquiry into the alleged diversion of public funds.
Commencement of impeachment proceedings against Governor Dapo Abiodun for breach of public trust, financial mismanagement, and neglect of citizen welfare.
“Governance is not about showpieces or prestige projects,” Dr. Soluade emphasized. “It is about good roads, quality schools, steady power, clean water, and functional hospitals. Any government that abandons these for vanity is wicked, insensitive, and unfit to lead.”
The ADC urged citizens, civil society organizations, and other political stakeholders to unite in demanding accountability from the state government, stressing that “Ogun State deserves leadership driven by compassion, transparency, and people-oriented development.”
