Ijebu-Ode security crackdown: Beggars relocate, Okada riders clampdown in ember months

By Juliet Nnoje, Abeokuta

The Ijebu-Ode Local Government is intensifying security operations by relocating beggars from the Central Mosque axis by month-end and clamping down on okada riders wearing black helmets and full-face masks.

This follows a security stakeholders' meeting at Obalende Divisional Police Headquarters on Saturday, October 11, 2025, where security challenges were addressed.

Vice Chairman Hon. Titilayo Julius Adeyemi highlighted the area's notorious crime and illicit activities, including human remains disposal.
Recent discoveries of a newborn's body underscore the urgency.

Adeyemi termed Zanga a black spot, necessitating evacuation for order and safety restoration. Plans are underway, and residents will be notified.

Divisional Police Officer CSP Akingbehin Akinwunmi emphasized community-law enforcement collaboration, praising efforts and urging partnership.

He called for joint patrols and neighborhood watches, cautioning okada riders using motorcycles for commercial purposes between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am, with offenders facing prosecution.

With ember months heightening security risks, CSP Akingbehin advocated sustained community policing and intelligence investment, urging residents to report suspicious activities without shielding criminals.

The Ijebu-Ode community and security agencies are committed to ensuring resident safety and shedding the crime hub reputation.
