Familarise yourselves with extant laws, IPROs charged

Information and Public Relations Officers (IPROs), have been charged to familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations guiding the Civil Service so as to be abreast of standards guiding it for maximum productivity.

The Director of Administration and Supplies, Bureau of Establishment and Training, Mr. Abiodun Oyenekan, gave the charge at the weekly statutory meeting of IPROs, at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta.

According to him, all states of the Federation meet at the National Council on Establishment, to deliberate on best way practices that affect public service human resources management, where some states adopt the Federal Government Extant laws, while some don’t. Ogun State however does, but with recourse to the State’s peculiar situation.

He revealed that Upgrading/Inter cadre transfer, conversion exercise were part of  routine  State Civil Service programmes where officers are given the opportunity to thrive and grow career-wise, especially, under the Prince Dapo Abiodun led Administration who constantly approves promotions and career conversion.

In their separate submissions, the Director of Establishment and Industrial Training, Mr.  Dare Ogunjobi and Director of Management services and training, Mr. Adeniyi Obasanjo, of the Bureau, said IPRO’s should read and digest circulars thoroughly for proper understanding of laws and seek clarifications where necessary, pointing out that the Bureau runs an open door policy.

IPROs were informed that the Civil Service Commission acted in tandem with Extant rules and Circulars guiding the service in the recent inter cadre/ upgrading process , especially as it concerns advertised posts, supersession and vacancy in their Ministry, referring them to Rule 02607, sections 1-2 and particularly, 2c of the Prublic Service Rule(PSR).

Earlier, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Waheed Adesina, appealed to officers to always ask the right questions from the right sources, whenever they need clarity about Service issues, noting that, obtaining and presenting additional qualifications on time, would help officers in sub-cadre categories rise, in their career progression which could ultimately make such to reach the peak of the Service. 

Lending her voice to the discourse, Director of Information, Production Services, Mrs. Kemi Ewedairo-Yusuf, advised IPROs not to act in contrary to the Service Rules by divulging classified and unverifiable information on social media, calling for caution and courtesies in handling service matters.
