History was made in Ogun State on Tuesday as the maiden ValueJet commercial flight departed from the Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, to Abuja — officially marking the commencement of scheduled flight operations from the Gateway State.
Addressing the first set of passengers before takeoff, Governor Dapo Abiodun described the event as “a dream come true” for the people of Ogun State and a defining testament to years of planning, perseverance, and commitment to infrastructural excellence.
He noted that the successful takeoff symbolized not just the realization of a vision, but the dawn of a new era of connectivity, commerce, and development for the state and its people.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that the Gateway International Airport, constructed to global standards, represents progress, possibilities, and prosperity — a legacy project designed to serve generations to come.
He added that the facility will catalyze economic expansion, enhance logistics, and further position Ogun as Nigeria’s leading destination for industrial growth and investment opportunities.
The Governor also commended ValueJet Airlines for its pioneering role in opening commercial flight operations at the airport, acknowledging the partnership as a bold expression of confidence in Ogun State’s vision and potential.
He extended special appreciation to the Chairman of ValueJet, Mr. Kunle Soname, for his visionary leadership, patriotism, and commitment to supporting the growth of Nigeria’s aviation industry and the socio-economic advancement of Ogun State.
