Founder, Victory Life Bible Church (VLBC), Reverend Lawrence Achudume, has cautioned journalists against the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in performing their duties, stressing that reliance on its affects balanced reporting.
Achudume explained that, the frequent use of AI in journalism had done more harm to humanity than the objective reporting that was expected from the media world.
The cleric stated this on Sunday in Abeokuta during the 2025 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) , Ogun Council Press Week Thanksgiving Service, held at the Church.
According to him, everyone in Nigeria today is almost a journalist, so therefore the use of AI is nothing to them towards getting writeups, which is doing more damage to humanity than the positive objective reporting.
“Today, almost everybody is now a journalist in Nigeria, AI will do more damage to humanity than the positive objective reporting.
” A man is formed by what he is acquainted with, that is why journalists are more powerful, but the use of AI is currently working to put an end to the race today.
“What a man becomes is formed by what he hears constantly and sees constantly, that is why journalists are very powerful, but AI has come to compete with you,” he said.
He urged journalists to always be professional and not be bias in ditching our information.
While commending the theme for this year’s Press Week event, Achudume stated that the theme is very relevant to the future of journalism.
“So your theme for this year is very germane and I pray that your lecturers will give a thorough teaching”, he added.
In his remarks, the Ogun NUJ Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju appreciated Reverend Achudume and the members for their contributions and love for the council since he assumed office in 2023.
He commended the clergyman for always being a friend of the media spiritually, financially and morally, adding that his prayers had been impactful.
Meanwhile, the council during the thanksgiving service donated food items to the foundation of the late Achudume’s wife, Royal Ladies International, Save Her Foundation.
The food items include, rice, noodles, tomatoes paste, amongst others.
The event had in attendance members of the Council, among which were; the Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, the NUJ National Ex-Officio, Comrade James Sowole, Ogun NUJ Vice Chairman, Comrade Abiodun Lawal, Secretary, Comrade Alhaji Bunmi Adigun, the Paramount FM GM, Mrs Remi Olugbenro, the Press Week Planning Committee Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Oke, amongst other members of the council.
