The Federal Government of Nigeria is expanding its National Cash Transfer Programme to reach 15 million vulnerable citizens. Under this initiative, each beneficiary will receive ₦25,000 in three separate payments.
The program, which is a key part of the government's efforts to address the economic hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidies, aims to provide direct financial relief to those in need.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the funds are being paid directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts, which are linked to their National Identification Numbers (NIN) and Bank Verification Numbers (BVN).
Eligibility for the cash transfer is tied to being on the National Social Register, which contains lists of poor and vulnerable households in each state.
In addition to this program, the government is also working on other social safety net initiatives, such as the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), which provides loans to small business owners, traders, and farmers.
