Team Oyo delivered an outstanding performance today at the ongoing National Sports Festival Gateway Games 2025, racking up a series of medals across para athletics, darts, powerlifting, and kickboxing events.
In the Shot Put F57 Men’s category, Omenogor Ikechukwu threw his way to a silver medal, reinforcing Oyo’s growing dominance in field events.
The track events brought further success as Adebisi Abdullahi and Adebayo Kokoomo sprinted to silver and bronze, respectively, in the 100m T12/13 final, thrilling spectators with a photo-finish race.
Team Oyo also secured double silver medals in the Walk Race (Men and Women) through the determined efforts of Ishaih Noah and Inemest Joy, keeping the state’s athletic hopes alive and well.
In Para Powerlifting, Oyo State made a bold statement of strength with two gold medals: Rita Ferdinand triumphed in the 79kg category, while Dauda Ibrahim claimed victory in the 59kg class, pushing Oyo further up the medal table.
The Darts events brought more accolades, with the duo of Adeyemi Saheed and Williams Grace winning silver in the 701 Mixed Doubles. Adeyemi added to his tally by winning gold in the 1001 Men’s Singles, followed by Alao Adedolapo who secured silver, giving Oyo an impressive one-two finish.
Meanwhile, in Kickboxing, Quadiri Balikisi Olasubomi showcased impressive skills and resilience to earn a bronze medal in the fiercely contested -52kg female category.
With today’s commendable medal haul, Team Oyo continues to make a strong impression at the Gateway Games 2025, reflecting the depth of talent and preparation invested in the athletes.
