By Mercy James, Abeokuta

A lawmakers, Gbolahan Yishawu representing Eti-Osa Constituency 02 in the Lagos State House of Assembly has said that the essence of introducing educational programmes is to meet the people’s need, most especially his constituents.

Yishawu disclosed this at the ongoing distribution of free General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms (13th edition) at his constituency office in Ikoyi, Lagos.

According to the lawmaker, the educational initiative is to ensure that the youth get into university and if they want to go for vocational courses they are able to attend it, adding that education is very key in the development of any nation.

“And we just need to support the community to ensure that parents who need to get their children educated do have the means to do so,” he said.

Speaking on the free GCE forms, Yishawu said that he gives them to those who need it and that the success story has been encouraging so far.

“For the success story, for us it is great. This is the 13th edition and it has been great. We are sustaining the programme despite the economic challenges and as long as I am representing Eti-Osa 02, I will continue to do my best,” he said.

Yishawu advised the beneficiaries to take advantage of the free GCE forms, saying that it is an opportunity for them to seek admission into higher institutions.

“The unique thing about the GOY programme is the support from the community and it is very dynamic. We are not stagnant, we respond to the needs of the people.

“Recently, we upgraded our training program, including digital marketing, IT training, data analytics and the rest. I hope in the near future we will add AI because that is where money is. The unique thing is that we respond to the needs of society,” he said.

Reeling out his education programs, he said: “We have different education programs such as distribution of free JAMB forms for people seeking admission into university and polytechnic.

“We support schools from primary to secondary schools with different equipment and amenities to ensure that the schools are running properly.

“This is to augment what the State government is doing. We also organise vocational training for students going to higher education who wants
to learn one skill or the other in order to augment their formal career.

“These are all about empowerment. We cannot overemphasize the importance of skills because human capital is a treasure and we will play our part as their representative.”
