By Marvelous Omoboriowo, Abeokuta

In the spirit of ensuring that communities in rural areas of Ogun State get solar street lights and solar home kits, the Ministry of Rural Development under its ‘Light Up Project’ has reached out to Ijeun Dipeolu and Ogunseye Village in Obafemi Owode Local Government, Iperu Akesan in Ikenne Local Government, Ogunji Village in Odeda Local Government and Olowo Village in Ifo Local Government.

It would be recalled that the State government commenced the distribution and installation of solar power project in rural areas in the year 2021 with the provision of 172 units of Solar Home Kits, 308 Solar Street Lights and 11 Solar Panels to Primary Health Care Centres in 14 Local Government Areas of the State.

Commissioner in the Ministry, Hon. Jamiu Odetoogun, who spoke during the distribution and installation of the solar power light to the beneficiary communities, said the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration was committed to lighting up communities in the three Senatorial Districts and underserved areas that are far away from the national grid.

Odetoogun, represented by Director, Rural Electrification, Engr. Ismail Balogun, stated that light was essential to the people in the rural and urban areas, towards improving their livelihoods, businesses and general well-being.

Also speaking at the distribution and Installation of Solar Home Kits, at Olowo Village, in Ifo Local Government Area, the Commissioner said the initiative was conceived by the present administration as a way to reduce exposure to hazards associated with traditional means of generating light in the rural areas, urging the beneficiaries to take proper care of the panel so as to serve them longer.

In their separate appreciations, some of the beneficiaries of the projects Chief Engr. Ebenezer Soetan commended the State government for addressing the plight of rural dwellers in the provision of solar energy, while the Baales of Ijeun Dipeolu, Magbon, Oloritun Iregun 11, Iperu Remo, and Ogunseye Village, Chief Solomon Dipeolu, Oloritun Rasaki Sonoiki, and Odesanya Amos, respectively, said the project would go a long way in enhancing the security of their villages.
