Akarigbo of Remo Land Condemns Sagamu Violence, Call On Youths To Embrace Peace

By Afolasade Owotutu, Abeokuta

The Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi has frowned at the violence that occurred at Sagamu yesterday, calling on youths to embrace peace.

Oba Ajayi said this while addressing some youths in his domain after the mayhem, stating that the destruction of lives and property would only compound the naira swap situation.

The Monarch explained that the policy on new naira notes was not from his domain nor the State or Local Government, appealing to the people, particularly the youth to remain calm and refrain from causing further trouble.

He assured that the Federal Government was working on ways to ameliorate the suffering being experienced by the people, urging them to continue to accept the old notes in line with the Supreme Court ruling.

In the same vein, an opinion leader,  Alh. Ganiyu Ajayi lamented the rate at which banks were destroyed, saying the situation had affected residents and businesses in the area.

Alh. Ajayi implored the people to always be cautious of their actions at all times, applauding the State government's intervention on the matter.

Also speaking,  a trader, Mrs. Abolore Adekunle said that the activities of the hoodlums had disrupted commercial activities, as many shops were under lock and key, soliciting the assistance of security agencies to prevent further occurrence in the town.
