Breaking: Osun APC Witness Mass Defection

By Our Correspondent

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Osun State has been threatened with mass defections ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This comes after several party members stated their desire to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Not less than 100 members of the party in the state’s Boripe Local Government Area, led by Aremo Tunde Olawale, have declared their intention to join the PDP.

The disgruntled APC members revealed that they are leaving the ruling party owing to the poor performance of the state Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, who was beaten by the PDP in the state’s recent governorship election.

Aremo Olawale, who is from the same local government as Governor Oyetola, stated that the APC’s choice to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2023 violates the principle of fairness, prompting him to leave the party with his followers.

According to Olawale, the ruling party does not honor the country’s religious diversity since the country is split along ethnic and religious lines.

He further stated that Governor Oyetola, who assumed office in 2018, has performed below expectations.

Olawale went on to say that disagreements between Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola and Governor Oyetola have ruined the APC in the state.

He said that certain APC leaders in the area have signaled their willingness to join the PDP, including Prince Bola Oloyede, Chief Bola Olaosebikan, and Mr Fancy Afolabi.

The APC member stated that the leaders will rally more members in the local government area to join the PDP.

Olawale also stated his intention to work for the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 presidential election.
