OGUN SSG TO FLOAT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR INDIGENT STUDENTS, OTHERS

By Jumoke Adeogun, Abeokuta

Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi has disclosed his readiness to launch a scholarship programme for indigent and deserving potential students, for the development and emancipation of youths in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the State.

Talabi, who said this during the Youth Harvest of St. Luke's Anglican Church, Oru-Ijebu, noted that the plan would engender self-reliance and create wealth for the youth in the area, adding that  an empowerment programme for the youth would also be considered.

According to him, ’’I am always favourably disposed to matters affecting the youth, as I wish to contribute and invest in initiatives that will guarantee their social emancipation. My wife and l will begin to sponsor our youths in public schools’’.

He advised youths in the area to rally around one another, consult widely and come up with innovations and ideas that could be supported to create wealth, saying they should not rely on white-collar jobs.

In his sermon, titled "Time to Advance" the Vicar and Archdeacon of the Church, Venerable Olaniyi Alawale, alluded to Deuteronomy Chapter 6 verse 1, where God told Moses that the children of Israel had stayed too long at a spot, challenging the youth to tackle their fears head-on, take a bold step and make a turnaround where and when necessary towards making significant advancement in life.
