ABIODUN TASKS IMMIGRATION SERVICE ON TRANS-BORDER CRIME ACTIVITIES

By Jumoke Adeogun, Abeokuta

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called on the officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), to collaborate with other security agencies in addressing the problem of trans-border crimes in the State.

Governor Abiodun made the call while playing host to the newly posted Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service, Ogun State Command, Comptroller Yakubu Jibrin, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, emphasising the need for an extensive security mechanism.

The Governor said residents at the border areas had been subjected to harassment and intimidation from criminals who usually cross from the Republic of Benin to the State to perpetrate crimes.

According to Abiodun, "I believe that with the support of Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies, the problem of trans-border crimes will be curbed. Most times, those who cross our borders from the Republic of Benin, wandered into our State and are found responsible for one crime or the other”.

He acknowledged the effective synergy that exists between the government and the security agencies, which had made the State to be one of the safest in the country, and assured of his administration’s support to enhance the agency’s performance

Abiodun urged the newly appointed Comptroller to step up action and use his vast experience in the job to assist the government in ensuring that the State is effectively secured.

Earlier, Comptroller Jibrin commended Governor Abiodun for supporting the Command, pledging that it would improve surveillance at the border posts across the State to tackle criminal activities.
