By Jumoke Adeogun, Abeokuta

Ogun State Government has assured candidates seeking admission into its Colleges of Nursing Sciences of fairness and equity, to secure the future of the health care system in the State.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker made this known in Abeokuta, while monitoring the entrance examination into the State College of Nursing Sciences for the 2022/2023 academic session, saying the selection process of successful candidates would be solely based on merit.

Coker said the present administration had standardised nursing education across the board, as the Colleges were among the best in the country. She added that application for the entrance examination had been digitalised, noting that registration, payment of forms, and other processes could only be done online, while the people would no longer have to leave the confines of their homes to apply for admission.

"As I walk around monitoring this examination, I see hopeful faces. In years past, many of them will wear gloomy faces. This year is different because the candidates are full of spirit. They know that if they stand a good chance of gaining admission without knowing anybody. All they need to do is perform well in the exams.

‘’Apart from getting full accreditation and collegiate status for our nursing schools, the present administration has resolved to continuously improve the standard of nursing education across the State", she said.

Coker added that qualitative nursing education is about the people that the students would serve after becoming qualified nurses, pointing out that admitting a candidate who is not qualified could be detrimental to the services in hospitals over time.
