Community Youths Go Haywire Over Killing of Motorcyclist By Suspected Smuggler Running Away from Customs In Itori

 It was a serious pandemonium on Friday, 1st of April, 2022 in Itori, Ewekoro local government area of Ogun state when motorcyclists went on rampage over the killing of one them by a suspected smuggler.

The motorcyclists and youths, Prowling Eagles learnt immediately after one of them was killed and on suspicion it was caused by a Customs team stationed at 1317 Hotel and Suites on Onigbedu road, went to the hotel burnt part of the structure and about five vehicles parked in front of the hotel.

It was further learnt the timely arrival of state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, at the scene with his team safe the hotel from being burned down.

An eye witness told our correspondent that the suspected smuggler was trying to escaped from the operatives of the Nigeria Customs Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’, Lagos, operating along the road when he hit the motorcyclist, who died on the spot.

The Customs FOU Zone “A” Command PRO, DSC Theophilus Duniya, in his response to the ugly incident said, “It was an accident involving a speeding vehicle that hit a motorcycle. Our officers who were stationed some few meters away from the scene of the accident did not pursue any vehicle”.

The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Officer, while confirmed the incident said, “a vehicle belonging to smugglers rammed into an okada rider and killed him on the spot.

“People at the scene of the incident had the belief that the vehicle was being chased by customs officers. That was how they went on rampage setting about four vehicles ablaze at an hotel, where the Customs officers were lodging.

“The arrival of our CP, Lanre Bankole, the DC operations and other officers safe the situation “We have made some arrests. We have been warning people to desist from taking laws into their hands. If anything happens, you cannot just go on rampage and believe you can be destroying people’s properties. Some arrests have been made and we are going to make an example of those arrested”.
