The socio-economic fortunes of Ikenne Local Government area of Ogun State is set to witness a great turnaround just as a multi-million naira multipurpose centre is set for establishment in the council area.

The facility being promoted by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo through the Obasanjo Holdings Limited will comprise an event hall, a cinema, and recreational facilities for both indoor and outdoor games.

The centre which will be sited on 1 hectare land expanse, along Ilisan-Iperu road, close to the Gateway Agro Cargo Airport, will among other purposes, create an enabling platform for youth empowerment through the provision of jobs; harnessing the potentials of the younger ones through sporting activities and entertainment; revive bonding between families; create a meeting point between people of different ages, tribes, tongues, and class, to rub minds, connect and nurture achievable dreams towards the development of their locality, state, and Nigeria; provide a fun centre for relaxation, and refreshment; and provide facility for the elderly where they can participate in recreational exercises that will strengthen their physical, emotional and mental well-being.

As part of efforts towards kick-starting the project, an on-the-spot inspection was paid to the proposed location earlier in the week by the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, alongside the Executive Chairman, Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Olusegun Ogunleye; a former Member of the House of Representatives; Hon. David Salako; Mr. Kola Odusanya; and Surv. Paul Ajayi.

It is expected that upon its completion, in addition to the Gateway Agro Cargo Airport under construction, by the Prince Dapo ABIODUN-led administration, Ikenne Local Government will be further transformed socio-economically
