The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has said that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration will continue to demonstrate zero tolerance to child and women abuse or any form of gender-based violence.

Engr. Salako-Oyedele, who stated this in her remarks at the 2021 Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Ibadan branch, Law Week at the Afe Babalola auditorium, Iyaganku, Ibadan, decried the increasing rate of child and women abuse in the society.

She noted that women and children are most vulnerable to any form of insecurity, adding that State government would ensure that the two groups are well protected, saying measures are in place to prevent anything that may cause collateral damage, while government has continued to support the security architecture in the State, with a view to protecting the citizens at all times.

"In Ogun, our Governor, the Chief Security Officer is concerned about making sure that the State is one of the safest in the country. Last year, the governor introduced violence against women law, in a bid to prohibit any act of violence", she said.

In her presentation on the theme; 'Women and Children in a Nation with Security Challenges' a retired Judge, Hon. Justice Olusola Williams, said violence against women could be seen as a malfunctioning of the security sector, noting that in an insecure State or Nation, children suffer sexual harassment, abuse, child labour, trafficking and recruitment into terrorist organisations, poor education and introduction of cultism, poverty, among others.

She said gender-based violence or all forms of abuse could be prevented through awareness and training, Law enforcement, empowerment and women’s participation in decision making.
