Collapsed Building: Gov. Abiodun commiserates with bereaved families, Lagos Govt

By Our Correspondent

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commiserated with families who have lost loved ones in the 21-storey building collapse in Lagos.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Kunle Somorin, on Friday in Abeokuta, said Gov. Abiodun shared the sad moment with the Government and people of Lagos State.

“Gov. Abiodun is saddened by the event that occurred in Lagos on Monday, 1st of November 2021, where a high-rise building under construction on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, collapsed. We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the bereaved families, the Government and people of Lagos State in mourning the deceased and pray that God heal all the wounded and ease the pains of the bereaved families.

Gov. Abiodun, the statement added, believed that the Panel of Enquiry set up by his Lagos State counterpart, Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu, will be providing insight into the immediate and remote causes of the building collapse.

Whilst supporting all the administrative measures put in place by the authorities to unearth the remote and immediate causes of the building collapse, Gov. Abiodun said efforts must be intensified to ensure that nothing is left undone to prevent future occurrence of sad incidents like this.

He said the outcome should “serve as lessons not only to Lagos but to the country as a whole.”

The statement further said that: “This is a painful loss of lives and this period calls for sobriety and prayers while investigations and rescue operations are still on"

Gov. Abiodun thanked all the first responders, including the State Emergency Management Agency, hospitals, and security agencies for providing all the necessary support.
